Everything you need to know about Getting a Brazilian Wax

Before all this traveling started I was trying to think of a way to make my life as easy as possible for upcoming trips (way less time in the shower shaving – yay! My long legs take forever as it is)

I was more than a little nervous before my first waxing experience so wanted to share some of what I’ve learned with you ladies. I debated back and forth about writing this but I kind of wish I knew some of this stuff before going to Brazil – so guy readers, I apologize I’ll be back to regular posts soon πŸ™‚

My first trip in, I remembered my friend said she gets on all fours when they do her wax, so when the girl said, okay you can get on the table and in position… I got on the table, pulled my dress up, got on all fours and when she turned around with the wax I heard her stifle a laugh, “um actually ma’am if you could lay on your back this will be easier” “OH, OK” (This is possibly one of the top 15 embarrassing moments of my life – or top 20 – there’s really so many).

To hopefully save you any embarrassment I wrote a few do’s & don’t’s. I seriously wish someone walked me through every little step my first time because I had so many questions!

DO:

Take 2 ibuprofen an hour beforehand.

Increase your water intake

I highly recommend a glass or two of wine beforehand to relax you.

I opt to wear a dress or skirt to my visit because it’s so much easier to just sit on the table and pull it up rather than awkwardly get undressed in front of the girl who is standing there waiting.

Purchase the products. I use the ingrown hair serum & slow it exfoliant in the shower.

Tip very well. for obvious reasons.

DON’T:

consume tons of caffeine before

Wear your best fancy schmany underwear. I normally don’t wear any to my visit and wear something comfortable after.

Get a spray tan beforehand. The tan will come off with the wax strip! Get a spray tan after.Β

Bother with a numbing cream. After hearing mixed reviews, I decided it wasn’t effective enough to mess with.

don’t get a wax for anyone other than yourself! I would never do this to make someone else happy it was more of a low maintenance thing for myself when I was on the go a lot and now I prefer it to shaving.

Shave again. If you get waxed, your hair becomes thinner, finer, and softer and eventually, you produce less hair. If you shave in between visits, you’re undoing all of that because shaving increases hair growth. (not to mention, the first visit hurts the most and if you shave before going in again, it’s like starting at square one. It hurts way less after you go a couple of times.

If you are someone who gets razor bumps, I would strongly consider trying waxing as an alternative to shaving.

I was advised to just do a “bikini” wax the first time and said, “Oh, no if I’m going to do this it’s all or nothing give me the full monty.” But if you’re nervous, maybe a bikini is a good first step of dipping your toe in the pond.

I see Katie at European Wax Center in Huntersville and I’m in & out in about 7 minutes. We’ve practically gone to about third base now so I can recommend her πŸ™‚ haha (sorry for the bad joke)

  1. Well, I have heard so many hypes about the brazilian wax but the only waxing I have tried is, half leg and half hand waxing, which I feel quite comfortable as below the knees is a part that seems to hairy and I know one withstand the amount of pain you need to go through which is like a little shrieking pain(ouch!) at some times. Besides, all the the pain is worth to do and I completely agree on to that. Great tips and you look absolutely awesome in the picture. Have a wonderful time.

  2. I used to get Brazilian waxes at European wax center too! I remember I bought some kind of 6 month package and just stopped since I just couldn’t take the damn pain anymore lol. It hurts soo bad and never gets any better.. I remember coming out of the wax room into the waiting room and everyone stared at me awkwardly since I screamed so much πŸ˜πŸ˜‚

    1. oh my gosh!! I guess everyone has a different experience the first time was painful but it’s just for a second and she would tell me to take a deep breath and applied pressure right after. I think also depending on your hair and all kinds of things can affect it! Now it’s like nothing when I go in. So sorry that sounds awful!

  3. Please don’t delete this post!! I just stumbled upon this post and I’m glad I did, I’ve shared it with friends before I even finished reading it because we’ve been talking about doing this but we’re all so scared! I felt you gave awesome tips and you made it a lot less frightening for me.

  4. Thanks for the tips! I’ve had only one bikini wax in my life, which went well, but I could never fathom being waxed around such a sensitive area! (…now that I’ve had a baby I feel a lot less worried about it…haha).

    1. I was shaking I was so nervous! And the thing is it does really hurt but it’s so quick and she applies pressure immediately after so the pain just lasts an instant. (I told her I was nervous and she told me when to take a deep breath and breath out and for some reason that helped – haha! ) after the first visit it’s less painful I’d almost compare it to getting your brows done just in a different region πŸ˜‰

    1. LOL! I honestly thought about it for years before doing it but I’ll never go back to shaving. In the beginning, I would have a glass or two of wine and take 2 Ibuprofen an hour before and now it doesn’t really hurt so I don’t do any of that! I will say I’ve never had ingrown hairs in my life and after starting waxing I got some which are super annoying but I learned if you exfoliate a lot it’s preventative. If you have any questions let me know!!
